On March 21st, starting a 7:15 PM, there will be a panel discussion with Alexandra Katona-Carroll, program manager, Coffee Quality Institute; Jay Ruskey, owner, Good Land Organics; Angel Orozco, owner and roaster, Cafecito Orgánico at the ALOUD event at the Library of Los Angeles.
Here's a short blurb about the dicussion:
"More valuable than gold, more ubiquitous than water, what is really brewing behind the $100 billion global coffee industry? Local coffee connoisseurs gather to discuss the journey of the bean from seed to cup. From the role of organic farming and the livelihood of producers, to trends in curating the consumer’s palate, the nuances of this beloved beverage have never been so complex."

Title: California Grown Coffee
Fresh Cup Magazine has chosen the photo of Jay Ruskey, owner of Good Land Organics, as the cover shot and story in February's 2013 issue. Hollywood native, turned progressive farmer, is shown on the front cover with a basket of freshly harvested cherries (grown right on his own farm) with views of the Santa Barbara's coastline in the distance. The photo was taken on a tour which focuses on educating guests about the 'Lifecycle of a Coffee Bean'. The tour caters to people from all segments of the industry, from barista, consumer to roaster as it is the chance to witness coffee trees and taste ripe cherries without a trip overseas.

Check out LaWeekly's great article on Epicure.sb this past September. Towards the middle of the article, the author highlighs Good Land Organic's caviar limes and locally grown coffee. I could go for one of these right now! "A handful of prix fixe menus exist for the eating all month, but the belle of the ball, so to speak, is executive chef Alessandro Cartumini's five-course wine dinner at Bella Vista at Four Seasons Biltmore. "From A to V" (Abalone to Vino) starts with abalone ceviche and locally grown finger limes, and ends with pistachio cake, passion fruit sorbet and coffee; the beans are grown at nearby Good Land Organics farm in Goleta, the only coffee bean grower on the continental United States."
